As a remnant of this taxonomic confusion, some early refer-ences cite Pittosporum phillyreoides with Pittosporum angustifolium
as a synonym(Maiden, 1889). However, most previous literature uses only the name Pittosporum phillyreoides or itsorthographic variants. These references can be clearly distinguished as refer-ring to Pittosporum angustifolium on the basis of geography,
because Pittosporum angustifolium occupies an Australia-wide distribution. Thus,it is possible that most,if not all, references describing traditional Aboriginal use of Pittosporum phillyreoides are more applicable to Pittosporum angustifolium, particularly if such information is derived from the pharmacopoeia of Aboriginal
tribes whose territory is within distinct locations in central, southern and eastern Australia.
