ranged from 1, strongly disagree to 5, strongly agree, with 3 being neutral. The mean response
for the evaluative questions (Q7 through Q11, see Appendix B) was between agree and strongly agree.
Only two students out of the 223 indicated a response lower than a four for Q11 (Overall, what I learned
by completing this project made it worth the time I invested) and the remainder responded with agree
(29 percent) or strongly agree (71 percent). Paired-samples t-tests show that students report a significant
change (p < 0.001) in their understanding of income taxes (Q6 versus Q7).

Table 3, students provided comments in response to four open-ended questions. These asked about
their most significant learning from the project, what they thought should be added to or deleted from
the project and, finally, if they had additional comments. Representative responses from students’ evaluations
