The share of developing countries in total fishery exports was about 54 percent by value
and 60 percent by quantity (live weight equivalent) in 2012. The fishery net exports of
developing countries (i.e. the total value of their exports less the total value of their imports)
have shown a continuing rising trend in recent decades, growing from USD11.5 billion in
1992 to USD17.4 billion in 2002 and USD35.1 billion in 2012. These figures were significantly
higher than those for other agricultural commodities such as rice, coffee and tea.
