The incidence of cases of scrub typhus has been increasing
since the early eighties[4]. While some attribute this to the
appearance of new strains of pathogens, it is also possible
that cases were misdiagnosed or under-diagnosed in the
past, thus underestimating the mortality and morbidity due
to the disease. It is difficult to conclude whether this is an
already existent yet unappreciated prevalence or a true
rise in incidence[5-7].
