This research investigates
the
determinants
of
shorter
software
development
time. For the
purpose
of
this
research,
software
development
time
is
defined
as
the
interjal
between
the
point
in time at
which
personnel
are
first assigned
to
analyze
software
product requirernents
and the release
of
the
product
to
customers. Ten hypotheses
are
examined
using
multivariate
linear regression
on
data from
North
American companies
with
over
20
employees
listed
cornpanies
in
the
Industry
Canada
Stategis
(http://strategis.ic.gc.ca),
the
CanadalT
(http://www.canadalT.com),
and
the
Tickit
(http://vvww.tickit
.corn)
databases.
In
this study, the number
of
weeks
spent defining product requirements
prior
to
coding
was
found
to
reduce development
time after
