The spike-like signals largely increase with the injected volume up to 30–35 μL and then the increase gets smaller, while the signal intensities for the sample volumes above 100 μL remain constant and equal to that obtained by a larger sample volume or continuous nebulization. The reason for the surprisingly good sensitivity for the only 30 μL sample volume should be found in the construction of the nebulizer of the used FAA spectrometer (240FS, Agilent). Thus, the mass sensitivity obtained for 30 μL was improved by a factor of 11 compared to the (continuous) sucking of 0.5 mL sample volume.
