Verifying
Kvale (1996) uses the verification stage to refer to the extent to which the interview asked what it was intended to ask did it answer the research question? I would agree with this but add another very different, interpretation of the verifying I see it stage. as a form of member check (Lincoln and Guba, 1985) After the interviews have been transcribed and analysed it is possible to return to the interviewee and confirm that your interpretation matches theirs did you understand what they had intended you to understand? There is the possibility that the interviewee might deny something you thought they had said. but I have yet to be faced with a problem like this; each time l have verified my interpretation of an interview it has usually been confirmed by the interviewee, in some cases it has even harvested more data, more detail on particular subject
