The study of emission variability was performed in GIS where
the spatial analysis and overlay techniques allow a detailed mapping
of several parameters of interest for a better understanding of
the results in order to evaluate the area of representativeness of
monitoring stations. The NetCDF files of areal and point source
emissions were imported in GIS, then summed up using map
algebra. The variability of emissions was calculated by applying a
neighbourhood statistics algorithm: the outcomes were 14 emission
variability maps about the seven pollutants under investigation,
covering the AMS macroregions of Northern and Central Italy
