The combined
methanol:water extracts were evaporated at 40 C (rotary
evaporator Büchi R-210, Flawil, Switzerland) to remove the methanol
and further frozen and lyophilized. The extracts were redissolved
in methanol:water (80:20, v/v) at a final concentration of
50 mg/mL and further diluted to different concentrations to be
submitted to the distinct in vitro assays. The antioxidant activity
of the methanol:water (80:20, v/v) extracts was evaluated by DPPH
radical-scavenging activity, reducing power, inhibition of bcarotene
bleaching in the presence of linoleic acid radicals and
inhibition of lipid peroxidation using TBARS in brain homogenates
(Guimarães et al., 2013).
