10. Summary and open questions
As a result of enormous effort a number of plausible and validated genetic variants that are associated with blood pressure and/or hypertension have recently been found. It emerged that these variants are either common and in turn contribute little to blood pressure variation [89] and [90] or are rare and have a relatively strong effect [102]. The future development of this area is difficult to predict but will most likely see a combination of GWAS and sequencing studies in large cohorts.
