INTRODUCTION
Sacha Inchi has been e and still is e used as a traditional nutrient and remedy in the Peruvian
Andes. The oil from the nuts shows an interesting fatty acid profile, predominated by unsaturated
components. It has been successfully introduced to the cosmetics and dietary supplementation
markets (Hanssen, 2008). In 2007, some 60,000 liters were sold; by 2008 this had
already risen to 120,000 liters. A number of possible medicinal applications are discussed here,
but significant clinical studies have yet to be completed.
