We stayed in Kinosaki for three day

We stayed in Kinosaki for three days in April. This Ryokan was awesome. We were magically picked up at the train station by Hachi (sp?) - we hadn't told them what train we were on or even that we were arriving by train, but somehow there he was waiting for us at the station to bring us to Morizuya in a gorgeous town car.

His English was excellent and he checked us in and and explained everything we needed to know including how the Onsen system in the town works, and gave us an order of preference for the seven public Onsen in the town.

The room is traditionally Japanese, sleeping on mats on the floor, eating at a low table sitting on the floor, etc. The room had a safe, toiletries, a wash basin and a WC. We had a pretty view of the (small) back garden. There were extra mats and bedding in the wardrobe so we were able to make ourselves very comfortable. Let me put it this way - I won't be getting rid of my bed at home, but we were very comfortable for a few nights.

And then there is the Onsen. On booking websites, Morizuya is labelled as having shared bathrooms, but what this actually means is that you don't have a full bathroom in your room, just a WC and washbasin. But the Ryokan has two of it's own private Onsen baths (one male, one female) so this is where you can bathe, but also relax in the hot spa bath. it was wonderful. One of the Onsen is outdoors, with a waterfall and the other is in a cave. Both were wonderful and they alternate male and female for morning and evening so you get to experience both. And you can reserve the Onsen privately in the afternoon so straight couples can experience them together. Really lovely.

Our booking included breakfast which was served in our room each morning and was delicious. The breakfast was varied each morning. We had Japanese breakfast two mornings and a western breakfast on the third. The Ryokan also offers the option of having dinner served in your room too. We opted for this one evening and it was wonderful. It consisted of a 10-dish full Japanese meal (including Sushi, Sashimi, Shabu Shabu, Tajima beef, Tempura, local Crab meat, etc). The food was great quality and very tasty and the service was perfect.

Morizuya is right in the centre of this gorgeous little town and close to all the Onsen and the local restaurants and bars. It is about a 7-8 minute walk from the train station.

One thing to note is that Morizuya does not take cards so you need to make sure you have cash. There is a Japan Post Office in town where you can use international ATM cards, but it's only open during the daytime.

Overall, I would recommend Morizuya very, very highly. We absolutely loved it!!
