One of the main findings in this study is the higher prevalence of depression in those with terminal cancer. This is in keeping with a recent study by Chochinov et al. (2000), who found that depression among terminally ill cancer patients is three times greater among patients who did not acknowledge their terminal condition. Despite this, the association of cancer stage with depression has been equivocal. Just as there are studies highlighting the association between these entities, there exist just as many others suggesting otherwise (Stefanek et al., 1987, Brandberg et al., 1995 and Baider et al., 1997).
