Tampa Bay, FL: Three people were killed in a small airplane crash in central Florida, according to Reuters.
The three victims of the twin-engine Cessna 337 crash were civilians but were reportedly participating in a military training exercise near the Avon Park bombing range, officials at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa said in a statement.
"The small, fixed-wing aircraft was providing support to a Special Operations Command training exercise. There was no armament on the aircraft or military personnel," the statement said.
The headquarters of the Special Operations Command is located at MacDill AFB on the Gulf Coast and is located approximately 90 miles west of Avon Park, the news source said.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the crash. An investigator told the Associated Press that the airplane most likely nose-dived into the ground, but cautioned that it could take as long as a year to determine the cause of the crash.
The victims have not yet been identified, according to the news provider.
