An important finding reported in the present study is the hypotriacylglycerolemic
effect (13% reduction) of a high-MUFA diet
compared with an AAD. Specifically, when carbohydrate and total
fat intake were constant and SFAs were replaced with MUFAs,
there was a significant triacylglycerol-lowering effect observed.
This finding has not been typically reported. In large part, this
reflects the experimental design that has been used by other investigators
to compare the plasma lipid effects of a high-MUFA diet
with those of a low-fat diet.
