1. Introduction
As part of large thermodynamic database of Mg-RE alloys [1–8],
the thermodynamic modelling of the (Si-RE) systems has been carried
out. Continuing the modelling of the (Si-RE) systems, a critical
evaluation and systematic optimisation of all available thermodynamic
data and phase diagrams of binary (Si-RE) systems (RE
(heavy rare earth) = Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu and Y) has been conducted
in the present study. As mentioned previously, among
many (Si-RE) systems, only three binary (Si-RE) systems, (Si-Ce)
[9,10], (Si-Gd) [11] and (Si-Y) [10,12], were thermodynamically
assessed so far. The thermodynamic models, which were used in
the present study, are described in detail in the part I of this series
of the study. As summary of this work, systematic trends in the
thermodynamic properties and the phase diagrams of the overall
(Si-RE) systems will be discussed in the end.
