So Asahidake onsen is not that worthy of seeing? I should preface and say the goal of our trip is "Natural beauty that's accessible for the elderly." The reason i chose Asahideki onsen is to get close enough to explore Daisetsuzan, which i hear has a ropeway my grandma could take. Would it be better to stay in Furano or Biei instead? Is there yet another easier place to stay where one could easily access Daisetsuzan? And whilst in Daisetsuzan, is hiking the only way to get around? Are there lots of ropeways or buses/some form of transport to get from the onsen to the park and around inside the park?
Also, how would you comment on the following spots in terms of whether or not they are worth visiting?
-Hakodate
-Otaru
-Erimo (the cape, i forget the full name)
-lake Toya
again, our goal is natural beauty (we especially like natural bodies of water!) plus some local culture that is most accessible for the elderly.
Our itinerary looks like this:
Sept 12 to Sept 19 or 20
1. 2 nights Sapporo (plus day visit to Hakodate or Otaru?)
2. 1 night Noboribetsu
3. 2 - 3 nights in a town near Daisetsuzan (or less if it's really boring like you say)
4. Something else? Lake Toya? Akan? Wakkanai? Kushiro? (if its not too far and easy to access)
5. Back to Sapporo for one night
Any thoughts are most appreciated!
