This study characterized the O2 binding properties of isolated RBCs from Pacific bluefin tuna and yellow fin tuna, and tested the hypothesis that temperature acclimation may alter Hb–O2 binding properties at the cellular and molecular levels. We discuss these findings in the context of prior studies and ongoing discussions regarding the physiological significance of reverse temperature-dependent Hb–O2 binding in tunas.
