The ECI was used to assess the caregiving experience as perceived by the caregivers. It is 66-item self-report measure of the experience of caring for a relative with severe mental illness It identified 10 independent dimensions in relatives' appraisal of caregiving: eight negative and two positive. The items are rated on a Likert scale (0 never, l rarely, 2 sometimes, 3 often, 4 nearly always). For the current study, the validated Malay version by Hartini was used. The psycho metric properties are satisfactory; it showed a high factor loading and ranged from 0.7 to 0.9 with good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha 0.942) The MSPss questionnaire, which was originally developed by Zimet et al. 1, is comprised of 12 items rated on a 7-point type scale (response format ranges from, 1 very strongly disagree to 7 very strongly agree).
