This is to be expected, as it is unlikely that many HIV-negative individuals would have received this diagnosis. Likewise, HIV-positive MSM were more likely to report hearing healthcare workers gossiping about them because of their sexual orientation/practices than HIV-negative MSM. A positive HIV status may lead healthcare workers to make assumptions about sexual behavior, and may also make an individual more sensitive to perceived discrimination. This behavior may therefore occur because of a positive HIV status, rather than serve as a predictor.
