Ignore some bad behavior
commonly used with infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers
This may sound surprising, but ignoring some bad behavior can be effective in some situations. Children like to be recognized and do many things to get their parents’ or au pair’s attention. However, if you just ignore bad behavior, the child might eventually get bored and stop. For example: if your host child uses bad language, he might be encouraged to continue if he gets your (negative) attention, but if you just ignore the swearing or cursing, he will get bored and stop after a while.
