So I must court you and your voice as lovers do.
Balthasar: Because you talk of courting, I will sing. Lovers often praise the one they love, Just as you praise me and my poor voice.
Don Pedro: Now that’s enough, your song must speak for you.
Balthasar: Then please note this-my notes are not worth noting.
Don Pedro: So, no more words. We’ll notes and nothing else will do!
Balthasar:[Singing] Cry no more ladies, cry no more.
All men tell lies, they always do.
They change what they have said before
The words the speak are never true.
Then no more tears, send men away
You’re better off alone!
Don Pedro: That’s a good song!
Balthasar: But a bad singer, my lord.
Don Pedro: No, no you sing well enough.
Benedick: [To himself] I don’t agree. If a dog had made a noise like that, someone would have killed it! I hope that a bad voice will not bring bad luck.
Don Pedro: Find some more good songs. I’d like you to sing again tomorrow night, outside Lady Hero’s window.
Baltthasar: I’II do my best, my lord. [Exit Balthasar]
Don Pedro:[In a loud voice] Tell me, Leonato, didn’t you say earlier that Lady Beatrice is in love with Signor Benedick?
Claudio: Is that ture? I did not think that lady would ever fall in love.
Leonato: I agree and I thought she hated Benedick.
Benedick: [To himself] Is that the way the wind is blowing?
Leonato: I can’t understand it either, but she is a woman deeply in love.
