Our collector, combined with the count method, showed several advantages. Fecal matter did not influence the results, because the feces and uneaten pellets could be easily distinguished by color, shape, and texture. By using the count method rather than the weigh method, we eliminated the effects of the dissolved fine matter and fine matter adhering to instrument surfaces. Siphoned uneaten feed did not have to be cleaned and dried, thus saving time and labor. The per-unit weight of the pellets was predetermined, eliminating effects of weight increases of the feed pellets through absorption of moisture and delique scence. The uneaten pellets were collected automatically without siphoning, saving time and labor.
