1. Introduction
In this paper we consider the range of applications
of educational technology to education over the past
fifty years and consider the influences on their
development.
We then turn to a consideration of the changes in
student and lecturer behaviour enabled by changes in
technologies in use. We consider how these
contemporary shifts in technologies towards the
enabling of social networks and access to resources are
requiring the consideration of new topologies for
learning, and new models for educational technology.
We then conclude by examining the barriers towards
the adoption of such new models.
