Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents unscripted situations and actual occurrences, typically in settings that are conventional to everyday life. Often times, it features a previously-unknown cast, who use the platform to establish public notability or begin their media careers. The genre often highlights drama, conflict, and controversial topics including partying; drunkenness; sex; flings and romances. Competition-based reality shows, a notable subset, typically have additional common elements such as one of the participants being eliminated per episode, a panel of judges, the concept of immunity from elimination, etc. In several series, a reality TV confessional is utilized for cast members to express their thoughts in private; such scenes are interspersed throughout an episode to provide commentary for a given situation.
