Background
Due to large particle size of cassava chip that causes blockage of machine and heat exchanger property damage. We need to investigate new material which less residual and the property should be similar to cassava chip, importantly, has low price. Therefore dry pulp which is by-product from starch mill was interested. In laboratory trial we found that the efficiency of fermentation process when using dry pulp to replace cassava chip is not significant differences. Then large scale of ethanol production will be performing in commercial scale.
Mill trial
A mill trial was arranged on February 17-22, 2014. Dry pulp was used to replace cassava chip and compared with reference previous 10 batches. Alpha-amylase enzyme dosage was increase in this process due to high level of viscosity of dry pulp in slurry. All parameters of sample from mixing tank until fermenter will be analyzed. Machine data, flow rate, temperature, reduction time and incoming raw materials will also be collected and summarized.
Result and discussion
The properties of cassava chip and dry pulp are shown in Table 1. %Total starch of dry pulp is slightly less than cassava chip. However, both of %particle size and %sand of dry pulp are less than cassava chip that will be fine for equipment in process.
