During the study period 40 cases of Erb's palsy were identified out of 9071 vaginal deliveries. Seventeen (42.5%) occurred without identifiable shoulder dystocia, 23(57.5%) with shoulder dystocia. McRoberts’’ maneuver alone or combined with suprapubic pressure resolved 47.8% (11 of 23) of the shoulder dystocias. Additional maneuvers used included Woods’’ corkscrew (4), delivery of posterior arm (3), or combination (5). The two groups had similar antepartum characteristics. Second stage characteristics were also similar with the exception of second stage length, being less than 15 minutes in the without shoulder dystocia group. Neonates in this group tended to be smaller birth weight, more likely to have a clavicle fracture and injury
