It is carried out using embryos created from sperm and oocytes from the commissioning couple, which are transferred to the surrogate mother. The surrogate ‘host’ is genetically unrelated to any child born as a result of such arrangements and many people may find this a more acceptable treatment. Success rates are, however, thought to be lower with this method and it involves more time and greater expense.
