Shaving is something i started doing with my own seeds not all that long ago, and was a helpful little tip passed onto me by a fellow grower.
The idea is to somewhat where away that outer ”seed coat” so that the Cotyledon gets more access to that moisture you’re creating.
The method i was taught is very simple; grab a small Altoids(or simular) container and a small piece of sandpaper. Fit the sandpaper to the container and put desired amount of seeds in.
You want the seeds to be able to freely move around. Give a good few shakes and your set.
The sandpaper eats the seed coat away just enough to give that extra helping hand.
The next method is scoring or notching your seeds.
Its as simple as taking a clean(preferably new) razor blade and making a small notch or slice in the seed coat.
Remember 2 things though:
A) you dont want to cut so deep that you damage the seed
B) dont cut yourself.
