While more people have flooded into the peri-urban areas inChina, the peri-urban areas have gained more attention. Neverthe-less, influenced by the traditional urban-rural dichotomy, urbanplanners and policy-makers have limited knowledge on the landuse dynamics and land management of peri-urban areas, given theirambiguous status and interstitial location (Webster and Muller,2002). Meanwhile, peri-urbanization processes vary considerablyacross nations such as East Asian countries and the processes evendiffer within various regions of a particular country such as seen inour current study A comparative analysis of different nations andregions can enhance our understanding of land use in peri-urbanareas and help policy-makers and planners identify the policiesmost suitable for the sustainable development of peri-urban areas.
