WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week
SALARY: Actual grade and salary will be based on the qualifications of the applicant.
NOTE: THIS IS A LOCAL POSITION. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL COME UNDER LOCAL LABOR LAW, AND BE PAID ACCORDING TO THE EMBASSY’S LOCAL COMPENSATION PLAN. ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT APPLICANTS MUST BE RESIDING IN LAOS AND HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
The U.S. Embassy in Vientiane is seeking an individual for the position of Security Investigator in the Regional Security Office (RSO).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Performs personal security background and other investigations as requested by various U.S. Government agencies. Conducts liaison with host country authorities regarding security matters. Translates and interprets security regulations.
Performs the full range of personal background security investigative duties relating to the determination of suitability for employment with the embassy or associated agencies of Foreign Service local job applicants. This involves planning, investigating, fact finding, evaluating, and writing reports that will be the basis for the determination of the applicants suitability for employment. Similar personal background investigations are made of local citizens or alien residents in the country who are prospective scholars and travel grantees. Conducts investigations into a variety of cases concerning suspected visa fraud and other investigative matters as directed. Represents the Regional Security Office and performs liaison with host government authorities concerning law enforcement and security matters of mutual interest. Translates and interprets official documents regarding security and investigative issues.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education: Completion College required.
Prior Work Experience: One year experience in any field or two to four years of progressively responsible experience in investigative work with a military, police, or private security organization. Experience with a U.S. Government organization would be beneficial.
Language Proficiency: Level III, excellent working knowledge of English and Level IV, Lao language is required.
Knowledge: Ability to understand and apply Foreign Affairs Manuals regulations pertaining to security and the Office of security’s Instructions and Procedures. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigating. A good working knowledge of documentary sources of information and familiarity with pertinent local laws.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to maintain extensive contacts with officials of various local agencies including the police. Ability to deal effectively with others and to obtain their cooperation. Must be able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and to report facts accurately in a logical, concise, and objective manner. Must have a valid driver’s license and be physical fit and able.
