Ninety-six Britons missing in Katrina floods
London – Ninety-six Briton are unaccounted for after last week’s hurricane in the United States but there have been no confirmed reports of British casualties, the Foreign Office said yesterday.
Britons diplomats in the United States have flown to the southern state to assist Britons caught up I the disaster after Hurricane Katrina flooded the city of New Orleans.
Us officials have said they fear thousands of people were killed in the floods, but they have not released a death toll. Hundreds of people were made homeless.
New Orleans, birthplace of jazz, attracts many foreign tourists. Some have already returned to Britain, describing difficult condition in the city after it was submerged. REUTERS
