Solids solutions of Ni in MgTiO3 ilmenite (geikielite)were investigated in depth for the first time as potential new yellowish pigments of dyes for the coloration of low-temperature(<1050 ◦C) ceramic glazes. With this aim, different Ni-geikielite solid solutions (Mg1−xNixTiO3, from x=0 to x = 0.4) were prepared by the conventional ceramic method and also by a citrates gel metalorganic decomposition route(MOD),using rapid industrial-like firing conditions (3 h soaking) up to temperatures compressed between 800 and 1400 ◦C. The following main conclusions may be drawn fromthis investigation:
