In other words, along with the employment cycle goes the trade cycle of boom and bust.
This cycle, brought to Marx’s attention by Engels in 1843, has been the bugbear of economics ever since. No economist has ever worked out a way of eliminating the destructive cycle of boom and recession. Of course, they have found ways of mitigating its effects— contrary to Marx’s expectation that it would get worse and worse—but they can do nothing to eliminate it entirely. If Marx is right this is only to be expected.
