While the mercury reached as high as 33C during the hot, dry weather of this month, average temperatures for even in the South East in August are predicted to be around 21C, the Met Office said.
The North West of the UK is likely to see the wetter of the weather in the month ahead, with average temperatures only around 15C.
A warm stream of air pushing up from France could see respite from storms in the South East on Thursday and towards the end of this week, with London possibly reaching 30C.
“The latest indications are that the changeable conditions expected during the start of August may persist for much of the month”, the Met Office predicted.
George Goodfellow, a forecaster from the Met Office, added: “We are seeing indications that the showers may be a bit more focused on the North West, so it should be a fairly standard North West to South East split for much of August.
