The findings of this research should be considered in thelight of its limitations. Due to the complexity of empow-erment, we cannot be sure of isomorphism between ourconcept of empowerment and that of the student partici-pants. This had the potential to threaten the rigour of thestudy. However, the longitudinal design provided a meansof re-visiting students’ lived experience throughout thestudy. Thus, data analysis consisted of revisions to thecomposite textural and structural description to reflect ourmaturing grasp of the phenomenon. Arguably, this enhancedthe credibility of the findings. The study was confined to one geographical area in theUK, and caution needs to be exercised regarding transfer-ability of the findings to different contexts. The experiencesof nursing students in this study were by definition, uniqueto them. It would be incongruent with the phenomenolog-ical underpinnings of the study to claim their representa-tiveness of a broader student population. Overall, it isincumbent upon readers to judge the transferability offindings by considering the spheres of influence in their owncontexts and countries.
