sick leave is earned to protect the employee if he or she is unable to come to work because of illness or a non-job-related accident. sick leave is generally accumulated each payday so that the hours earned total forty at the end of each year. the total sick leave that is earned may be carried over from year to year. To encourage employees not to abuse the sick leave privilege some clubs have a policy allowing any unused sick leave to be redeemed for cash when the employee retires. clubs that do not offer sick leave can establish a reporting-time requirement involving 1 or 2 hours of pay. although not required by low, this requirement is a good business policy.
