most significant cultural characteristic is language. Arabic is the main language used by Saudis in their society. Therefore, most Saudis prefer that the language of the websites is Arabic. This research shows that 90% of respondents preferred the Arabic language in websites, which is considered to be a high percentage. On the other hand, only 9% of respondents prefer the English language, which is due to the lack of English teaching in government schools since the official number of English teaching hours is only 3 hours per week. Today, Saudi families have become more careful with their children’s education by enrolling them in private or International schools where English is taught by English native speakers. E-Commerce is not widely used in Saudi websites because most Saudis have low levels of trust in this service. At the same time, there are many Saudis who buy their goods from international websites, such as ebay.com and Amazon. However, credit cards are used locally in big stores only in Saudi Arabia, unlike western countries, where use of the credit card is widespread, even in oil stations and taxis. This study shows that 49% of the respondents use credit cards, whilst 51% of respondents do not. Therefore, this research suggests some alternatives to those of the credit card, such as Paypal, bank transfer, and cash. Local websites can use these three approaches in order to increase the demand for their online services and at the same time, the Saudi customers would feel safer. Saudi Riyal is the official currency used by Saudi sellers and buyers. This study shows 78% of the respondents prefer the Saudi riyals, whilst 20% of them prefer the US dollar. Although Saudi Arabia pegs its currency to the US dollar, internet users from Saudi Arabia still prefer to deal with the Saudi Riyal. The official calendar used in Saudi Arabia is the Hijri calendar, which consists of 12 months, and each month has between 29-30 days. The period of the month cannot be determined, whether it is 29 or 30, unless the moon is seen by astronomers. This study shows that the Hijri and Gregorian calendars gained the same percentage from respondents, which is 50% each. To clarify further, all Saudi government organizations and schools use the Hijri calendar, whilst the Gregorian calendar is used by private sectors. The 12-hour clock system is the clock system used by Saudis in common life. The study shows that 72% of Saudis prefer the 12-hour clock system, whilst 28% prefer the 24-hour clock system. In Saudi Arabia, the 24-hour clock system is used only in train and airplane schedules for more accuracy and to avoid any confusion. A website’s colour is one of the essential cultural factors to be considered in web design; also the meaning of the colour differs from culture to culture. This study shows that 75% of respondents prefer light colours for a website, whilst 25% prefer dark colours. Because of religious and traditional aspects, most Saudis do not like to hear music because it is considered sinful in Islam amongst Saudis. This study shows that 87% of the respondents did not like to hear background music on a website, whilst 13% preferred to hear music.
