CHAPTER 10 Guidance
Overview
Guidance involves helping children learn and practice appropriate behaviors that contribute to their own well-being and the well- being of others. Effective guidance begins with knowledge of child development and with empathetic observation. It means recognizing that childrens behaviors are a form of communication. When teachers figure out what a child is trying to "say," they can guide a child to an appropriate alternative. At the same time, they can promote good habits, self- discipline, self-confidence, and social skills.
