Other chemicals that
currently are being used by the poultry industry for online
reprocessing include sodium metasilicate, peroxyacetic
acid, citric acid blended with hydrochloric and phosphoric
acid, monochloramines and solutions of hypochlorous
acid (chlorine) with controlled pH (Volk, 2004). To
date, chlorine still remains the most widely used antimicrobial
chemical by the poultry industry (Northcutt and
Jones, 2003).
