As described by Radunz (2006), in the large cattle herds in northern and central Australia, the eradication response was to depopulate all adult cattle in contact with the infected animal and wherever possible, to depopulate all young animals that at the time of the detection were in contact with the infected animal or had previously been in contact with the infected animal. In the UK, Conlan et al.2012) have recently emphasised the need for multiple control strategies to address this issue, relating to the different sources for local persistence of infection.
