The torque constant (k/ ) for the PM BLDC starter/ generator is 0.125 (N • m)/A. The stator phase resistance and phase inductance are 18 mX and 160 lH, respec- tively. Figures 9 and 10 show the steady-state machine speed and phase-current profiles in the motoring mode for a load torque of 37.5 N • m. The simulation shows that the
speed reaches 2,800 r/min (1,000 r/min at engine shaft) at
160 ms. The peak phase current is 150 A (Iphase ¼ T=2k/ ) for the 37.5 N • m load torque. An estimated engine iner- tia was used in the simulation. However, the simulation
results show that a 150-A step current command should be able to start the engine in a relatively short time
