Fig. 1 shows the repaired toluene storage tank tested by
acoustic emission. The storage tank was built with high
strength steel of A 283 grade C [8] in 1978. It is 13.37 m
diameter by 12 m tall with a flat bottom and domed roof of
308. The tank wall was fabricated with eight steel plate
courses. The wall thicknesses of the first and second steel
plate course from the tank bottom are 6.6 and 6.3 mm,
respectively. The other courses have a 5.8 mm wall thick-
ness. The storage tank was designed for 11.2 m maximum
operating height of liquid toluene. As shown in Fig. 1, all
