Too much excitement: Ceiling collapse at badminton tournament
On Tuesday evening in Ho Chi Minh City, two matches were underway at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open in the 30-year-old Phan Dinh Phung Sports Center.
Fans were in the stands cheering their favourite players.
All of a sudden, there was the sound of a loud crack. Then, the ceiling started moving.
Taiwanese player, Lu Chia, spotted dust falling from the ceiling and raised the alarm.
The main referee in the stadium at the time, Julie Carel, immediately halted the matches and quickly made sure the four players left the court.
Watch what happened next!
As spectators rushed away, the ceiling caved in, leaving a pile of debris and sending dust into the air.
Unbelievably, no one was injured.
According to the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper, the ceiling was installed in 1994 but a renovation plan announced in 2012 had not yet begun.
