Traditionally, adventure tourism has been perceived to be a younger person’s activity. However, in recent years we have seen a growth of adventure travel by empty nesters-older keen to enjoy new experiences once their children have left home. What appear to vary are the motivators of adventure tourism at different ages. According to the work of the US travel industry, travelers in their 20s tend to take an adventure trip for the thrill, those in their 30s pursue an interest in the environment, and those in their 40s or 50s to get away from job stress.
