BELGRADE: Police fired tear gas after clashing with a crowd of hooligans protesting against a gay Pride Parade yesterday in Podgorica, Montenegrin media reported. Between 300 and 400 people shattered shop windows and hurled rocks at police, the Vijesti newspaper reported on its online edition. Meanwhile, around 100 homosexuals and gay rights supporters marched under the protection of 2,000 police officers. After days of threats and renewed condemnation of gays by the Serbian Orthodox Church, Montenegrin officials promised participants full support and warned attacks will be sanctioned. dpa
