In this experiment, Hardt’s synthesis of the complex was
adapted and extended to a few substituted pyridines. The
procedure has been successfully introduced in our undergraduate
inorganic chemistry laboratory course, giving students
an opportunity to synthesize a few of these unusual complexes,
to become familiar with their unconventional structure and to
observe the fascinating phenomenon of fluorescence thermochromism.
