Three types of concrete were studied:
1. Control concrete without fibers (designated BA): mix ratio of concrete is shown in Table 1. Compressive strength, tensile strength, and modulus of elasticity are listed in Table 2.
2. Concrete reinforced with sisal fibers: 1, 2 and 3 % w/w fibers (0.38 %,0.76 % and 1.14 % v/v respectively) were added to the control concrete (designated Sil%, SI2% and SI3% respectively). The mechanical properties of these concretes are summarized in Table 2. 30 mm long sisal fibers were used in this study. The specific gravity of the fibers is
1.22. The water absorption relative to weight of dry fibers is 66%. Therefore, 66 % w /w water was added to the dry fibers 24 hours before
they were mixed into the cement. This water has not been considered
in the calculation of w/c values.
