The education aspects of voluntary labour can be found in the many social programmes of the Black Panther Party in the US. According to farmer Black Panther leader Bobby Seale (1969:11) volunteer work in such programmes as their alternative schools, free breakfast programmes and police patrolling initiatives was about 'education the people through a practical functioning operation of a socialistic program'. This is true as much for those who volunteered in these programmes as for those who received services. Since accordind to Seale,
'by practicing socialism they learn it better'.
