Desorption of chromate under changing pH was also
studied. It was observed that only 0.56 mg chromate per
gram of the powder was desorbed when treated with 1 N
HCl, while Cr 38.32 mg/g was desorbed with 1 N
NaOH. In addition, the chromate adsorption experi-
mentwastriedwithcommerciallyavailableionex-
change resins, and it was observed that the chromate ion
exchange reaction took place with the anion exchange
resin but not with the cation exchange resin. It could
therefore be concluded that hexavalent chrome ions
behave as anions like CrO2
